The timeline
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | You take Mifepristone. Most women feel little or nothing — some light nausea or spotting is possible. Carry on as normal. |
| 24–48 hrs later | You take the 4 Misoprostol tablets. Plan to be at home and comfortable from this point. |
| 1–4 hrs after | Cramping and bleeding begin. The heaviest bleeding and strongest cramps usually last 3–5 hours — this is the pregnancy passing. |
| The next days | Bleeding eases to a normal-period level, then to spotting. Cramps fade. Tiredness for a few days is normal. |
| 2–4 weeks | Spotting tapers off. Pregnancy symptoms are gone. Take a pregnancy test from 4 weeks to confirm. |
Looking after yourself
- Use pads, not tampons, for the first 1–2 weeks to lower infection risk
- Avoid swimming and baths for about a week — showers are fine
- Eat well, drink fluids, and let yourself rest — your body has done real work
- Feelings afterwards range from relief to sadness, often mixed — all of it is normal. Our counsellors are here to talk, without judgement
Fertility returns fast
Ovulation can restart within two weeks — before your first period. If you do not want to become pregnant again, start contraception straight away; we can advise you on the options during your follow-up.
