Normal and expected
These effects mean the medication is working. Most begin 1–4 hours after taking Misoprostol and settle within a day or two:
- Cramping — stronger than period cramps for a few hours, then easing
- Bleeding with clots — heavier than a period at its peak, tapering to spotting over 2–4 weeks
- Nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea — usually brief; anti-nausea tablets are included in our kit
- Chills or a low fever for a few hours after Misoprostol
- Tiredness, headache, dizziness — rest, fluids and food help
Managing it at home
- Take ibuprofen 30–60 minutes before Misoprostol (paracetamol also helps; avoid aspirin)
- Use a heat pad or hot water bottle on your lower belly
- Plan a quiet day at home with maxi pads (not tampons), water and snacks
- Keep your phone close — our team checks in and is one message away

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How long does bleeding last after the abortion pill?
Heavy bleeding with clots typically lasts a few hours, then eases. Lighter bleeding or spotting can continue for 2–4 weeks. Your normal period usually returns within 4–8 weeks.
Is the pain normal?
Strong period-like cramps are expected and mean the medicine is working. Ibuprofen (taken before or with Misoprostol), a heat pad, and rest manage it well for most women. Severe pain that medication does not touch is a warning sign — contact us or a doctor.
When should I get medical help?
Soaking two or more maxi pads an hour for two hours in a row, fever above 38°C lasting more than 24 hours, foul-smelling discharge, fainting, or no bleeding at all within 48 hours of taking Misoprostol — any of these means contact a doctor or clinic promptly. You can also WhatsApp us at any hour.
